When it comes to skincare, there are loads of options. To cut through the clutter and find what works, I try to find brands I love instead of just products I love. Alba Botanica is definitely a favorite, and has been for a super long time.
Not to get all sappy about skincare, but Alba Botanica has been with me since the awkward early high school years, when acne was my sole skin concern and I'd try anything to fix it. The first time I ever thought about going greener or looking for a more natural product rather than harsh scrubs and irritating serums, I bought an Alba Botanica product.
It's no surprise their products are still all around my sink. While I don't struggle with acne nearly as much as I used to, I still need products that work to fight the occasional breakout. I LOVE the Acnedote scrub. It combats breakouts with salicylic acid (a plant-derived acne fighter) and willow bark extract, plus has aloe and chamomile to soothe and reduce inflammation.
Some more good stuff: it's also free of parabens, phthalates, or synthetic fragrances. It's 100% vegetarian and not tested on any furry (or non-furry) friends.
During the winter, I use this about 1-2x a week to prevent breakouts and give my skin a deep clean. It's gentle enough for daily use, but my skin tends to be on the dry side - especially here in Colorado, so I've found 1-2x a week works best for my routine.
I think skincare and beauty brands are in a unique position to influence and inspire positive change. Through messaging, advertisements, and more, they are not only telling us about their product, they are telling us how we should perceive ourselves when it comes to beauty. They have the power to inspire confidence and body positivity, or instill self-doubt.
Like I mentioned before, I want products that are effective, but I also want to support brands that are worthwhile and taking steps to influence women in a positive and inspiring way. In a market where there are so many options, for me it has become more than just about the products themselves.
Why I love the brand
I'm such a fan of Alba Botanica because they are an agent for this empowering positivity that I think we need more of. The brand is helping women achieve their goals, supporting female-owned businesses through a grant program to help them expand their businesses, and highlighting women who are authentically inspirational in their fields.
