a little note about Holiday cards

Christmas cards are one of my favorite holiday traditions. I can remember as a kid helping my mom put together a family newsletter to be sent to family & friends with updates about each one of my siblings and parents' lives. In my pre-facebook childhood, the holidays were a time to reconnect with people you had been out of touch with during the year and share news about what happened in your life since the year began.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all about social media...likely too much at times, but there's something special about getting a Christmas card in the mail or putting a holiday photo collage up on the fridge. Maybe its nostalgia, maybe it just feels more personal, but either way its a tradition I don't plan to leave behind anytime soon.

I missed the boat on wishing all of my family and friends happy holidays with a physical card last year, because I'm not too great at planning ahead if we're being honest. I knew it was something I wanted to make sure to do this year, so when Basic Invite reached out to ask about a collaboration, I was beyond excited.

Since they allow you to order individual samples of your cards, I let the ideas run wild and created multiple versions of holiday photo cards and Christmas party invites. I ordered one of each to see how they looked in print and also so that I could feel the paper quality before deciding on "the one." Each sample is priced around the same as a greeting card, so I can't wait to use this as an option to create individual custom cards for family and friend's special occasions like birthdays or showers.

Favorite colors + color options

I'm a color & prints enthusiast, and I don't take that label lightly. I always joke that I don't have just one favorite color, and its so true. I like almost every color for its own reason and it's been that way for as long as I can remember. If you asked me my favorite color in kindergarten you would have gotten "Pink, purple, and blue" as an answer. Not only do I love palettes and color options, I also know how important it is to have the right hue and shade. Seriously, you should have seen how long it took me to choose the right shade of light grey for our walls.

It took me quite a while, but not nearly as long as the paint choice, to pick out the colors for each invite. Basic Invite offers almost unlimited color choices (180 to be exact), so that means I was able to pick the color of each and every detail on the design and see how it looked via an instant preview. Once I (finally) settled on my color choices, I then got to choose an envelope color from 40 options and also design an envelope liner, which was so much fun.

If you're not about having that many options, don't worry. Basic Invite has a huge selection of designs that require nothing of you but putting in your information to create perfect, professionally designed cards or holiday party invites.

 Glimmer + Glitz

Sparkly things are always fantastic, but holiday metallics are a must for me. Silver and gold decorations are my favorite, so it was pretty convenient to be able to incorporate my affinity for shiny metallics on my holiday cards. I ended up creating a couple cards with raised gold foil. The other options included silver or rose gold and then I was also able to pick from flat or raised foil options.

I LOVE foiled text designs. Its just the extra pop that makes the design come to live and feel so much more fun.

Ok, time for my shameless plug. Basic invite is offering 30% off on any of their holiday cards (250+ design choices) if you use this code: holi30  Go design some so they'll be here in time for the holidays! I'd love to see what you come up with. Leave a comment or DM me a photo of your finished design.
