Time to talk fall trends.

Even if your go-to every year is a PSL, leggings, and plaid, you'll still want to be in the loop for those days when you need to be chic, effortless, and on the edge of all the great trends happening this fall.

First let's chat about my top 5 must-haves for this season, inspired by this runway collection, then I'll show you a couple shoppable looks to illustrate. Ready?

This Season's Must haves:

01 Reds

If you haven't heard, red is the color of the season. We're not talking muted maroon, bright bold red is in and I promise it's a color everyone can pull off. Whether it's a fun & flirty day dress with tights, or a geometric top with ruffles & harsh lines, the trick to wearing red is picking a silhouette that fits your style.

STYLIST TIP: Red isn't a one-shade-fits all. Red comes in different hues, meaning you can pick a red that compliments your skintone or haircolor. Pick a warmer red if your skin's undertone is warmer, and choose a blue-red if you lean more toward the cooler side. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, read this.

02 The Leather Jacket

Most people either love it or avoid it altogether. It's no secret I'm a huge fan of leather (see what I mean here). If you haven't quite committed to a leather jacket as a staple piece in your wardrobe, this is the season is the time to do it.

STYLIST TIP: If leather intimidates you, don't be afraid to mix and match. Layer a leather jacket over a feminine dress, or pair with a blush floral top and denim for a softer look. Leather jackets have been a staple for some time, primarily because they're SO easy to dress up and down. Not to mention they make every outfit, casual or chic, look just a little more polished. Still lost? Go scroll through this article, then pop back here.

03 Velvet

Ah, velvet. It's a classic in the truest sense of the word...we're talking a trend among nobility as early as 1399. What does this mean for this season? Because velvet has been around awhile, it is fluid in terms of the style and personality it conveys. While the fabric itself consistently gives off a luxe feel, the cut and pairing of the piece determines a more specific style direction.

STYLIST TIP: Explore all the options. From blazers to cut-outs to clutches, absolutely everyone can find a unique and fitting way to rock this trend. I've got an affinity for velvet dresses this season, especially in a light navy or maroon hue. Need more? Pop over here

04 Covered Leg

This one is fairly simple: if it's not a floor-length maxi or full-length bottoms, add a pair of tights or leggings. I know this might seem a little broad, but the style we're going for here is a look that is warm enough for the cold weather while still showing off a silhouette. It means you can repurpose your hue-appropriate floral sundresses by pairing them with some tights and layering with a jacket. We need to stay warm, but we don't have to wear bulky styles to do it. Tights and leggings accentuate a gorgeous leg silhouette while still providing some temp-appropriate coverage.

STYLIST TIP: Let those legs out in the warmest way possible. Tights are a great way to pursue this trend. Opt for black or colored styles that are less translucent than classic and less relevant pantyhose (remember those?). Don't be afraid to layer dresses and skirts over leggings. My favorite pairs are here and here. Not only are they warm, they look like leather but absolutely aren't, and they're perfectly slimming.

05 The Soft Hobo

Think slouchy, effortless, un-structured. The most straightforward option is a hobo bag. Otherwise, choose a look that feels structureless but remains elegant. A bell or gypsy sleeved top or a fitted top layered with a light and flowy choice like a kimono or peplum jacket.

STYLIST TIP: Slouchy & un-structured doesn't mean untailored. Pick a look that hugs you in the right places but lets loose afterward for a truly effortless look. Think boho, but mix in classic elements for a stylish balance.

Ok, let's get to the runway looks...

Yeah, I know what you're here for. (P.S. Hover over any look + click the "+" icon to shop it)

Winter Metallics

So this one didn't make the top 5, but if you ask me it's number 6. Metallics aren't just for tinsel. Silver and gold trends this fall vary from the main element of a floral pattern (see here and here), a subtle metallic accent (like this or this), or a full-blown "you know what it is" (see here and here).

I love this look on the model because the metallic vest adds interest to an otherwise fairly basic look. A base of black and white between the bottoms, booties, a turtleneck and slouchy beanie, but the metallic brings it to life in a cool-wintery way.

You're apt to see me rocking a style with full-blown foil-wrapped glory, but if that's not your jam there are plenty of options to adopt this trend in a more realistic way. Choose a plaid with a stripe of metallic, a pair of tights that boast just a hint of sparkle, or a shiny metallic clutch.

Fierce Floral

Floral doesn't always have to be light and flirty, especially when it comes to fall / winter style. A bronzy base let's you know that this isn't your well-known springy variety.

How to wear it? Pick a floral that has some depth and dimension or incorporates some of the bolder fall shades. Not only that, seek out larger flowers that don't feel as subtle and elegant. We're talking the sort of verdant prints you might find on your grandmother's couch. Less blossomy, more concentrated.

Floor Length Plaid

Plaid is a print that works for anything and everything. A floor length maxi is no exception, but is also a more original way to rock the print. Accenting a black and white classic with standard fall colors like maroon, orange, or navy is the perfect way to dress up this time-honored pattern in a simple way.

The safe option is to stick with a plaid flannel and some denim, but that's no fun. It's one of those prints you don't have to be scared to put all over.

Leather Lust

We already covered the basics above. If you scrolled past that part here's the scoop. Everyone can to it, the trick is in the mix and match. Layer over a light dress or some blush hues for a relaxed look. You don't have to stay classic and stick with black or brown. If it scares you, go blush or nude with the leather itself (see what I mean here).

All Black Monochro- oh...there's a pop of red.

See what I mean, you don't have to wear all red to rock the red trend. Just a pop here and there. Earrings, a handbag, bright lipstick, or a scarf is the literal cherry on top to an all black fall look. Pops of red are almost never a bad idea, but they look especially great with black & white mixed patterns like plaid or polka dots, and navy or blush pieces.

Patches & Pins are in

Otherwise regular blazers and jean jackets are making a statement this season with added patches & pin embellishments. This trend comes in multiples: you'll see 5-10 pins and patches present to complete the piece, not just one. The trick to styling this trend is finding a piece that has enough added embellishments to showcase the style, but not so many that it feels busy and overboard. Stick to pieces where the patches have a solid theme or color scheme so the look feels cohesive and pulled together.

Dresses over Jeans

This is one of those trends that makes it's way back into style every few years. This trend is fun to wear and also practical since you can use existing pieces in your closet to style them all new. Layer a sun dress over a pair of raw hem jeans and throw on a leather jacket or chunky cardigan and you've got a fall look that still feels fresh and flirty. Or go more wintery with a sheer long sleeve black dress and your favorite pair of jeans. This look is best paired with some block heel booties or heels and a pair of jeans that are skinny or straight legged to keep the silhouette sleek.

A little about the Show

We definitely have my sweet friend Yuliya to thank for the invite to this event since it was hosted in her gorgeous apartment building, Steele Creek. We sipped wine, snacked on macaroons, and ooh-ed and aah-ed at all the amazing looks Neiman Marcus put together. If there was any blogger consensus on the fall must have's we were all definitely obsessed with the velvet trend and couldn't get enough of this coat.

Shout out to my girls C.J (@everydaychiffon), Vanessa (@vanessalandlt), Hanna (@littleleebook), and Yuliya (@dresslikeme) for making this night an absolute blast.

Girls Night In // A Rooftop, Wine + Blogger Besties

- Events, Lifestyle

Girls Night In

Every once in a while you need a relaxing girls night in with some wine, chocolate-covered strawberries, and some good laughs. My favorite thing about a girl's night in is being able to talk and dive deep with no distractions. Of course, nights out are a blast, but there is just something about a comfy couch and a great view with plenty of wine and snacks that brings you closer. It let's you dig a little deeper and share a little more honestly.

"Friendship is seriously one of the most important thing's we've got."

I have to say, you wouldn't always have found me at a girls night. As a little bit of an introvert, it took me a little bit to understand just how important friendships are. Finding people to surround yourself with and do life with is so crazy essential.

You might not know it from the photos, but I had only met one of these girls (C.J. of @everydaychiffon) in real life before this night. Both Alyssa & Delayna were my 'close' instagram friends, but we had never actually met in real life. The funny thing about that was how fast we clicked. Everything was on the table, from hair extensions to plans for NYFW and trips we could take together to collab ideas and venting about frustrations.

"I guess that's the funny thing about my generation. We don't have to start from square one every time we meet someone because we already know so much about each other's lives through social media."

I think we hear a lot about how technology is an inhibitor of relationships. A scene with friends out to lunch together but all looking at their phones comes to mind. But the truth is, it's not always that way. I think for many of us, social media and the technology that supports it are a way to take care of a lot of the small talk beforehand. It then allows us to make our time in person a lot more meaningful. We can cut to the chase and dig deep because a lot of the niceties like " where are you from?" are already taken care of.

My good friend Katie put on this event. It started as just a simple idea, but she seriously did an amazing job making it a reality. Her idea was to bring bloggers together for a "Networking Shoot." She would be the photographer, and get brands to sponsor the event. Little did she know just how much it would mean.

I expected to connect with my insta friends in real life and have a fun-filled night of sipping some of my favorite wine. And it was that, but so much more. I've always believed that you know a true friend when you walk away from the conversation feeling energized and encouraged. Of course there is give and take: sometimes its their turn to pour their heart out and your job just to listen and advise when needed. I think if you leave most of your conversations together feeling recharged and ready to take on life, then you've got yourself a best friend.

Our conversations were just that. We shared our favorites, aired our frustrations, and left the night feeling fired up with heads spinning about all the new things we could accomplish in our lives, and with our blogs, but also all the ways in which we could collaborate together. I walked away from this night with three new blogger besties.

A Little Shoutout

You're probably wondering by now about some of the products that are featured in these photos. A few brands were gracious enough to sponsor us, and I have to give a little shout out to them for making this night possible. Who knows, without them I may have just stayed insta friends with these girls. We may never have exchanged numbers and we wouldn't be planning to take NYFW together.

The glasses you see are from Colorado Glasses. A local brand with a fun and fresh style, I could see myself wearing just about any pair they've got available. I'm a huge fan of the way their designs mix earthy wood tones with sleek frame elements and they've even a few pairs with some perfect pops of color.

Next up is my favorite local winery, Infinite Monkey Theorem. They were kind enough to gift us our wine supply for the evening. And yes, you saw it right...that is canned wine. Believe me, I don't think I'd trust it from anyone else but them. As a non-beer drinker I'm a huge fan of being able to ice down some cans of white right in the cooler for a little Oklahoma Football tailgating.

The adorable ribbons you see on the stem of our glasses are from Tie One On Wine Charms. They're too cute, can go right along with the theme of the night, and make a perfect little hostess gift.

About the Look

My one-shoulder bow top is from Banana Republic. It has time-honored light blue and white banker stripes and a classic one-shoulder silhouette which means it will outlast the off-shoulder trend that's sure not to still be center stage in summers to come. The dramatic, oversized bow is obviously the focal point of this piece but still feels graceful enough for everyday wear and not to Gaga-esque.

I paired this top with some white skinny jeans, which are a seasonless staple in my wardrobe. I love wearing them with bright summer colors for a beachy look or pairing with a classic flannel and some grey booties for a fall casual look. I believe the "No white after Labor Day" rule has lapsed and that its totally worth breaking...get you some.

My fun hot pink statement earrings are from Spare Drawer Designs, which is another amazing brand local to Denver. If you need an excuse to snag them, I should let you know that ‪10% of proceeds go to Joshua Station‬, a transformational housing program for homeless families here in Denver, Colorado.

Summer Of Style

- Events, Fashion
Cherry Creek Shopping Center Denver | Summer of Style Event | Denver Shopping | Giveaways | Mini Makeovers

I popped by the Summer of Style event at Cherry Creek Shopping Center last weekend and it was seriously so much fun. The event featured complimentary mini makeovers, hairstyling and spa treatments - plus mini bites, summer sips, and delicious sweets. Oh, and giveaways like concert tickets and $500 shopping sprees.

There's two more events going on today (July 22nd) and next Saturday (July 29th), so if you're in Denver I definitely recommend a girls day out at the mall getting pampered (for free) and maybe hitting up the Nordstrom Sale afterwards.

The events are from 1-3pm in the Grand Court (by Neiman Marcus), which is decorated in beautiful flowers and totally instagramable.

Here's the list of (uh-mazing) prizes you can win these next couple Saturdays:

Hair Styling

Aveda had stations set up at the event to style hair, including braids and mini up-do's.

My stylist, Stephanie, used the Shampure dry shampoo to add some volume to my roots and then applied the dry conditioner to my ends to give them a boost of moisture.

The dry conditioner was awesome because it added noticeable shine without dampening my hair and causing frizz like other leave-in conditioners I've tried.

 Mini Makeovers

I didn't have a chance to get a makeover myself between all the snacking and taking blog photos, but a couple makeup artists from MAC were set up doing personalized makeup applications.

They were seriously amazing. We chatted about how on point their colorful glittery eyeshadow game was when I can barely manage a simple smokey eye. I wanted to spend an hour or two in their chair just picking their brain and having them teach my how to do my makeup (way) better.

My Look

This pleated camisole has been one of my favorite summer tops - I have it in both burgundy and powder pink which is a really pretty blush color. The burgundy is a great transition piece moving into fall since it's perfect for layering.

My shorts are also from H&M and under $25. I'm obsessed with the scallops on the bottom hem and they are so comfortable! They also come in multiple colors.

You might recognize my shoes from this spring outfit, but these lace-up heels have been one of my top two go-tos all summer. I got these earrings on sale and it doesn't look like they are online anymore so I linked a similar style below.

Wedding Getting Ready Party + Bridesmaid Gifts

- Events, Lifestyle
wedding getting ready party | wedding day | bridesmaids party | get ready party for wedding | bridesmaids getting ready

Of course I'm marrying the man of my dreams, but my wedding day wouldn't be my wedding day without my girls. Luckily, these 7 babes said yes to flying all the way out to Hawaii to be by my side at our wedding. (P.S. for all of you that have been asking, YES there will be a full wedding post coming soon!)

Getting Ready

Of course, we had to have a little getting ready party, which consisted of the usual things. Scampering around between bathrooms in the villa, swapping makeup and tips, drinking champagne and giving advice on which bra to wear. You know, girl stuff.

Confession, I hadn't fully written my vows until we were getting ready. But in my defense I had thought about them a lot and just needed to get them on paper. Plus, Rich didn't write them at all, so I don't feel too bad about it.

Bridesmaid Gifts

I put together little goodie bags for everyone which included some day of essentials (like a little bottle of champagne) and silk robes so we'd be all cute and matchy for photos. Most of the other little goodies I was able to gather up before we left and ship to Hawaii, because there was no way they were all going to fit in my suitcase. A few odds and ends I got later and ended up having to pack.

01  Solid Colored Satin Robe - AMAZON

Robes are a classic getting ready essential. I went with solid colors to change it up a little from the floral trend, and chose bright pink since it coordinated with the dress colors and looks so fun! I picked a champagne one for myself, which went with the champagne layer on my dress.

02 Mini Bottles of Champagne - Courtage

Every good girl's day needs some bubbly. I love the mini bottles because they're just so cute and fit perfectly in a gift bag.

03 Smooth Stick Lip Balm - EOS

Eos eggs are awesome, but I love a tube of lip balm a lot better. Which is why I was excited to find these EOS tubes. I got sweet mint and pomegranate raspberry. The colors fit my wedding colors, which were coral, dark pink, and light blue.

04 Beachy getting ready essentials

I snagged some skin and hair care items to put in the gift bags and chose the travel size ones since it was a destination wedding. Most of them made it, but some of them were confiscated from my suitcase on the way there my TSA.

Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray - Not Your Mother's | Tropical Dry Shampoo - Batiste | Hair Spray - Tresemme

05 Birthday Cake Truffles - Godiva

These I mostly bought because they were fun and pink and looked like a party. They did not disappoint.

06 Socks & Stud Earrings

I found some super fun socks (since sold out) from Target that came in assorted packs. They were two-tone and varied in dark pink, light pink, orange, gray and yellow. They also had cute pom poms on the back and looked super adorable with the robes.

I also included a couple pairs of gold and colored studs that they could wear the day of if they wanted to. I actually had these ones from when I used to own my online boutique, so decided to re-gift them in the goodie bags since they were just too cute!

07 Thank you card

I wrote everyone a little personalized note to thank them for being a part of my big day and let them know how much I appreciated their friendship. I snagged some cute stationary from (surprise) target (not available online) that had an adorable floral pattern and some polka dotted envelopes.

Do you have a wedding coming up? Are you planning to put together a getting ready party with some gift bags? Let me know what you think!

Beating the Winter Blues with John Atencio

- Events, Fashion
blue topaz ring | statement piece | john atencio | jewelry design | Denver Co | Cherry Creek Shopping Center

If there's champagne, macaroons, and sparkly things, you can pretty much count me in.
I got to attend a fun event at John Atencio a little over week ago in Cherry Creek Shopping Center called "Beat the Winter Blues." Between trying on all sorts of diamonds and the 70 degree weather, it was a fantastic way to say adieu to the winter blues and welcome spring.

This event was seriously so much fun. The staff is amazing and was so helpful in letting me try on and touch all the beautiful pieces to my heart's content. I definitely added a few things to my wish list, and I'm planning to pop back in soon while I'm wedding ring shopping.

While beating the winter blues, we explored John Atencio's tanzanite and blue topaz pieces. I fell love with how vibrant and colorful the gems are. My two favorite pieces (if I had to pick favorites) would have to be the Venture London Blue Topaz Bracelet (pictured above), which comes in two sizes and is part of the Venture Collection. It features a pear-shaped london blue topaz set in white gold and accented with three brilliant round diamonds.

The other piece I love is this amazing signature blue topaz ring. Besides the fact that it's gorgeous and perfectly sparkly, this ring is amazing because it's a signature piece, which means it is individually designed by John Atencio to showcase the gems that he personally selects. Each piece in this signature collection is one-of-a-kind.

A little about John Atencio

I had walked past the John Atencio shop a few times, but hadn't made it in to browse until this event, and after trying on all the different pieces I wish I'd made it in sooner.

I always love getting to hear a little about the jewelry designer's process and story, so it was fun to learn that John Atencio's first inspired attempt at making jewelry was a ring he made out of silver for his then girlfriend while they were still in college. Since that, he's been designing jewelry in Colorado for over 40 years.

Next time you're in Cherry Creek Shopping center, stop by and try on some of these amazing blue pieces yourself.

Lovely in Lace – Holiday Party Outfits (Part 4)

Lovely in Lace - Holiday Party Outfits (Part 4)

My pick for a classic holiday dress look is this lace dress. I really like the lace pattern and the fact that it's long sleeved.

I love how the lace is over white so that you can really see the detail, compared to a lot of black lace dresses that just layer black on black.

Holiday Party Outfit Ideas | Lace Dress | Christmas Party Look | Black and white | Long Sleeved Dress

The black and white is more interesting than just a classic little black dress, but still looks sleek and sophisticated.

If you don't love a bunch of sparkle, and red and green isn't really your color, this look is perfect for you. The fit is also amazing - it looks really tailored, but it still feels super comfy to wear.

Holiday Party Outfit Ideas | Lace Dress | Christmas Party Look | Black and white | Long Sleeved Dress

This dress looks amazing with red lips as an accent. A pair of metallic heels or a red peacoat would be perfect adds if you want to add just a little more interest or festive-ness to this look. You can get this exact lace dress is from Stitch Boutique of Denver, but I've linked some similar looks below for you out-of-towners.

P.S. This is part 4 in my holiday party look series. You can catch part 1 here - a twist on the little black dress - part 2 here - skip the dress, rock leather and part 3 here - keeping it casual.

Keeping it Casual – Holiday Party Looks (Part 3)

If jeans are simply your comfy place or you need a casual holiday party look, this one's for you.

This relaxed look pairs my favorite skinnies with a glitzy v-neck tank.

This tank is double layered and has a sheer cream layer underneath with matte gold sequins on the top layer which add some sparkle, but just the right amount for a casual look.

The top is layered with a khaki blazer, which adds structure and warms this look up.

I added a gold and cream cuff choker, and slipped on some brown wedge booties. Black booties or a pair of metallic gold pumps would also be a great option.

There are a lot of easy variations on this outfit if you're looking for more color. Add a bright red clutch or pair with some army green skinnies instead of denim. The top and blazer are both from Scout and Molly's of cherry creek.

Skip the Dress, Rock Leather – Holiday Party Looks (Part 2)

This eye-catching ensemble pairs faux snake skin leather leggings with a sheer black top that has just enough glitz to make it festive.

This outfit is the perfect choice for your holiday party if you aren't really a dress girl, find yourself getting cold all the time, or love the idea of rocking leather.

If you're not a fan of the all-black midnight look, you can sub the black tank for a green or red one to add a pop of color under the sheer top. Add a pair of red, pointed-toe heels or a metallic handbag to create even more interest.

If the party you're attending will not include you having to carefully watch your wine consumption, a simple variation on this SFW (aka office party appropriate) would be to layer the top over a simple black bra, and slip on some pumps.

The look is already pretty warm, but if you need some more layers I would recommend a white leather jacket or textured black bomber.

This look (minus the booties) came from one of my fave places: Stitch Boutique in Denver.

A Twist on the Little Black Dress – Holiday Party Looks (Part 1)

A TWIST ON THE LITTLE BLACK DRESS

I'm so in love with this dress! It's like a wintery twist on the classic LBD. The top is a perfectly- shaped deep V, which is a flattering cut on just about everyone. The bottom poofs out into a knee-length skirt with a snowy feel. It has the softest fine-fringed texture that just asks to be twirled in, and also makes you feel a little bit like a sugar plum fairy.

If you tuned in to my winter hair post, you know I'm a little obsessed with greys, blacks, and whites as far as a winter wardrobe palette is concerned. The simplicity of black and white makes this dress ideal for holiday parties. Choosing a black and white look helps your party pics look cleaner and more sophisticated: you won't find yourself blending into an already-busy holiday tree or clashing with the tinsel and sparkle that's everywhere. B&W is also my go-to because the accessory possibilities are endless. You can add pops of color to your look with a fun clutch, some shiny pumps, or keep it simple like I did with some black ankle booties and a swipe of red lipstick.

My go-to for warming this dress up with a layer would be a red leather jacket. Not only does it add a pop of holiday color, it's the perfect statement piece for staying toasty while keeping this look sleek. You can also add a plaid evergreen scarf on top if you are feeling extra festive. If you are loving this look, you can snag this dress for yourself at Scout and Molly's of Cherry Creek (See their FB Page)
